Discover Bucharest Old City – 2.5-3 hours walking tour

While the Old City is visited during the “Bucharest at Large” and “Bucharest at a Glance” tours, this itinerary is more complete, it allows more time in front of each landmark, and includes brief visits to some of the most interesting restaurants, bars, pubs (there are quite many in the Old City, on a surface of less than 2 square km)

As mentioned within Tour 1 and Tour 2, the Old City represents much more than an entertainment hub. Before the communist era it was the commercial heart of the city, hosting large banks and strategic companies that shaped the economic life of the country, as well as small boutiques, fancy stores or antiques shops.

During the tour you will learn about the most successful and flourishing periods in Romania’s history (the one at the end of the XIX century and before the First World War, and the one between the two World Wars) and you will be presented historical buildings in the area, along with other landmarks

The tour can be extended with a walk on Victoriei Avenue, up to the Revolution Square (about 800 m). Victoriei Avenue is also bordered by impressive historical buildings, while the Revolution Square encompasses the city’s most relevant periods in the past two hundred years: the one dominated by royalty and the one under the grey auspices of communism.

Also, it can be extended (from Mon to Friday) with a visit to the National Bank of Romania, located in the Old City. Tours are made based on prior reservation, and take place at fixed times (12:00 pm and 4:00 pm for English) and they are free of charge. Please know that besides the building interior, which is amazing, the visit will offer you rich cultural, political and economic insights about Romania.

Regarding the starting time, one should consider the Old City is more animated after lunch. Also, during the evening the lights offer a different, nicer perspective.
