  • Our first stop will be in Sinaia city to visit the Peles Castle – one of the most beautiful in Europe, built in Neo-Renaissance style at the end of XIX century for the Romania’s king Carol I. It was inaugurated in 1883, but the works for the entire complex ended in 1914. Interior decoration is mostly Baroque influenced, with heavy carved woods and exquisite fabrics. It was the world’s first castle fully powered by locally produced electricity.
  • Next castle visited is Bran (associated with Bram Stoker’s character, Dracula), which was built in the XIV century by the Saxons from Brasov city (former Kronstadt) with a double role – customs for the goods that entered and exited Transylvania, and fortress against the expansion of the Ottoman Empire.
  • In half an hour or so from Bran we will finish crossing the Southern Carpathians and reach Brasov medieval city. The history of the city dates back from the XII century, when German colonists were invited by Hungarian kings to develop the region. In 1211 the Teutonic Knights fortified the southeastern area of Transylvania (known as Tara Barsei in Romanian and Burzenland in German) to defend the border of the Kingdom of Hungary.

About Prejmer Fortified Church – there are over 150 fortified churches in the south-eastern area of Transylvania, of which seven are part of UNESCO heritage, and Prejmer is one of them, located about 20 km from Brasov
